Whānau means fun
30 October 2017
Balloons, hand games and some basketball skills was a heap of fun at our 1st muster at QE2. Over 130 Māori players took part in the all day wānanga (workshop and training). The theme was ‘Whanaungatanga’, Chairman Antoine Coffin says. “This club belongs to the whānau. Knowing who you are where you come from is a foundation of being Māori. We want our kids to be confident, connected and challenged.
Teimana Bennett (Deputy Principal, Te Wharekura ō Mauao) encouraged the players and parents to get to know their connections and express their positive values in this club. The next wānanga is at ASB Arena on the 2nd December and will focus on haka, moteatea and waiata ringa, traditional forms of Māori performance.
